The armature was 3/8 inch rebar, welded together.

surrounded by chunks of styrofoam and pieces of metal lath (the styrofoam
reduces the overall weight of the piece; this one is still about
200
lbs).

concrete mixture: I used 1 part each
white Portand cement, marble sand ("pool
mix"), vermiculite, and sifted masonry sand.

first layer of concrete has been applied.

I carved details after the concrete
started to
set up.
